The latest details about Richmond public schools are extremely disappointing and heartbreaking. Disappointing, because we expect our schools to do better, but also heartbreaking, because our schools are failing our children and harming their ability to thrive.

WTRV reports“On the seventh-grade math SOL, data shows that zero RPS students passed the SOL and just 13 percent of students in Petersburg passed it. Compare that to Chesterfield, where 83 percent of seventh graders passed the math SOL this past school year.”

We have to demand better from our schools and their administrators. Its also important to note that parents also have a part in this. Yet one more reason to demand student funding portability so that parents can select their favored school and give their children a fighting chance.
