In a welcome change of events this week, the republican House of Representatives presented and passed a continuing resolution (CR) today that funds 100% of government….except Obamacare (Affordable Care Act). This is after all indications showed that the republicans were unwilling to attempt this strategy to stop the job-killing and rights-restricting Obamacare program, and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to this decision.
The CR is now on its way to the Senate, where the pathway to passage is markedly more difficult. Its entirely possible that the Senate will return the CR with the Obamacare defunding language stripped out, so we’ll need to carefully watch to see if the republicans capitulate, using this initial vote as a smoke-screen to placate conservative voters.
But for today, we applaud the House for its efforts.
PS: VA’s own Scott Rigell was the only republican who voted AGAINST the CR
From Jim DeMint at Heritage:
Today, a bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives voted to stop Obamacare while funding the government to prevent a shutdown. This is a powerful development for the cause of freedom, showing that our representatives are listening to the concerns of the American people about this unworkable, unfair, and unpopular health care law.
