Passing this along…the 7th district republican committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) at 4:30PM has been cancelled due to redistricting activities (see below).

Newly revised redistricting law requires that

the January 9th 7th congressional district meeting to be held:

Saturday, January 9, 2016  —-  4:30 P M – IS Cancelled !!!!!!!

Location – The Western Henrico County Government Complex
Board of Supervisors meeting room
4301 East Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228.

The recent court’s order involving the Personhuballah vs. Alcorn case impacts currently scheduled business of the 7th congressional district committe.

Under the Party Plan’s requirement at Art. I, Sec. B that chairmen and members of official committees must be qualified voters in the district they represent, RPV’s consistent practice has been to reconstitute its committees immediately upon the legal effectiveness of new district boundaries. The court’s order became effective upon its entry 1/7/2016, so the membership of the 7th District Committee has necessarily changed.

Because this change to law happened so suddenly, It’s now impossible to provide the required notice to the appropriate parties of the meeting, so the meeting must cancelled.

It is regrettable that the timing of the Court’s order has led to the need to reorganize committees so close to the Feb. 1 deadline for issuing calls for the quadrennial district conventions.  It is, of course, possible that the Supreme Court may provide relief, but unless and until it does, the current legal lines imposed by the Personhuballah court’s order must be observed.
