Rasmussen just released a poll that shows Americans by large numbers believe 1) Tea Party members understand the issues facing America better than members of Congress, and 2) their positions on those issues align more closely with those of the Tea Party than with those of congressional members:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of U.S. voters believe the average member of the Tea Party movement has a better understanding of the issues facing America today than the average member of Congress. Only 30% believe that those in Congress have a better understanding of the key issues facing the nation.
When it comes to those issues, 47% think that their own political views are closer to those of the average Tea Party member than to the views of the average member of Congress. On this point, 26% feel closer to Congress.
Not that this is a surprise to any of us – after all, we are the hard-working, mainstream Americans reflected in this poll – but it’s especially heartening to see these kinds of numbers in the face of the relentless attacks from the left meant to destroy us. The louder they scream, the bigger our numbers and influence grow.
They are losing this debate. Badly. And they know it. Now is the time to fearlessly accelerate our efforts to connect with other Americans who have been ignored in Washington for so long. We will ultimately be victorious in restoring virtue and accountability to our government, ushering out career politicians who serve their own interests at the expense of America.
