Governor McDonnell has decided to endorse Senator McCain in his reelection to the U.S. Senate. Senator McCain has fierce competition from former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in the Republican primary. Hayworth enjoys significant Tea Party support in Arizona. According to the Washington Post Governor McDonnell said:
“Senator John McCain is a leader of character, courage and principle, and I am proud to support him,” McDonnell said in a statement provided to the McCain campaign. “Over the last year, the American people have taken a firm stand for smaller government and new pro-growth policies to create the jobs we so desperately need. These are the principles that Senator McCain fights for every day, and we need him now more than ever in the United States Senate.”
There is a serious reason why McCain went from running for President of the United States to scraping together a reelection campaign for U.S. Senate. People are tired of the same old politics. We don’t want the great compromiser. We don’t want middle of the road. We don’t want illegal immigration. We don’t want Campaign Finance Reform that restricts freedom of speech for the grassroots while enabling unions and big corporations full access. We don’t want tax cuts to expire. We don’t want the self-interested politicians.
No matter how much political pundits want to make the claim that McDonnell won because he campaigned as a moderate, Bob McDonnell won because he was perceived as the principled, conservative candidate. This is exactly why McCain wants McDonnell’s endorsement…he needs the conservative credentials. This is not a good move by Governor McDonnell. We don’t need more of the same. Endorsing McCain is a bad decision. Tell McDonnell what you think.
