This is a priority informational alert.

Whenever we (on the right) grumble about democrats wanting to restrict 2nd Amendment gun rights and to reduce your ability to protect yourself and your family, they mock us as being ridiculous and that “no one wants to take your guns”. But of course, the moment that they gain more political/governmental control over our lives, one of the very FIRST actions they take out of the gate is to initiate those exact actions. From a federal perspective, and perhaps at a level where we can have lesser impact, the impending Democratically-controlled House of Representatives has released plans for a bundle of anti-gun, rights-stripping legislation for 2019. From the Washington Examiner:

WASHINGTON—Democrats say they will pass the most aggressive gun-control legislation in decades when they become the House majority in January, plans they renewed this week in the aftermath of a mass killing in a California bar.

Their efforts will be spurred by an incoming class of pro-gun-control lawmakers who scored big in Tuesday’s midterm elections, although any measure would likely meet stiff resistance in the GOP-controlled Senate.

We wanted to inform you about this federal development, to help frame the additional and perhaps more plausible threat to us here in the commonwealth. Our friends over at the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) have sent out a red alert notice (and a Call to Action) about Governor Northam spinning up a suite of authoritarian gun-grabbing legislation for the General Assembly session. From Town Hall:

Smelling Blood: Virginia Democratic Governor Readies New Anti-Gun Package

I wish I could say hold the line here, but I’m not going to lie—some version of these laws are going to be enacted. Again, it might not be on the initial attempt, but in the near future, Virginia could have gun laws similar to that of Maryland or New Jersey. If not under Northam’s tenure as governor, then definitely under anti-gunner Mark Herring, who is the current state attorney general, who plans to run for governor in 2021.

Northam wants to expand background checks, re-impose the one-gun a month rule, and ban so-called assault weapons. On the latter, that would be any firearm that has a magazine that holds ten-rounds or more

For a few years, we enjoyed a relatively brief respite from strong rights-stripping efforts in the General Assembly, but those “safer” days could (likely) soon be over. Its time to once again show our legislators that the larger public does not support their efforts to infringe on your rights, and that they may pay a political price for reducing your freedoms. One important way to do this is a show of support during the upcoming Lobby Day at the General Assembly on January 21st in downtown Richmond.

We strongly request that you consider attending Lobby Day.

More information about the event is available on the homepage of the VCDL website. For our supporters outside the Richmond area, there are buses available for Roanoke, Lynchburg, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, VA Beach, and Hampton Rds areas. We recommend you use the VCDL site as the authoritative location for details, but below is what we know currently:
