A review of a report from the House Committee on Energy and Commerce shows some sobering figures regarding the expected increases in health insurance premiums nationwide. All states are expected to see double-digit increases, but for Virginia, we’re “lucky” enough to be expecting the largest minimum increase in the cost in premiums from across the entire country. Increases are projected at a minimum of 75%! While there are several states whose premiums are expected to be higher overall (ceiling), we’re looking at the highest minimum increase. This can only have a devastating effect on Virginia families, as this will force employers to cut back on benefits to employees. In fact, there’s talk now of dropping family members off of plans, leaving only the employee insured. Of course, there are other ways to address these premium increases, such as simply reducing a company’s workforce. So grab tightly onto something nearby, because the road ahead for Virginia families is about to get a lot rougher.
