Obama holds court with Felipe Calderón over a joint session of Congress and permits him to berate Arizonans and the Americans who support the law dealing with illegal aliens (and no, they’re not “undocumented workers”).
As this editorial by John Lott points out:
President Obama keeps asserting that Americans risk being harassed because of the Arizona law. But he never explains how this could happen given what appears to be the extremely straightforward language in the law.
Wouldn’t Obama better serve the people of Arizona and the United States by reading the law? He can download it here or read a summary. He should also carefully study Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution (emphasis added):
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence.
Through this recent bill, Arizonans (as Virginian’s did with the Healthcare Freedom Act), are asserting the self-evident truths that:
“…they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”
The citizens of Arizona have simply empowered the state government to protect them from a foreign invasion where the federal government has failed miserably to do so.
For Obama, Arizona is yet another annoying and inconvenient reminder that there are limits on his power, that he serves at the consent of the governed and that the majority of Americans do not share his vision to remake America.
