I’m happy to report that the filibustered DISCLOSE Act lost in the Senate, coming in at 57-41, three shy of the 60 needed. I’m not happy (or surprised) to report that Senators Webb and Warner were not among the 41 “no” votes.
Thank you, though, to all those who contacted them on this. As they continue to try to ignore us, they must know that we’re still fully engaged and will never let up on our goal of protecting the Constitution and restoring its basic principles.
I admit…I have so little faith in Warner and Webb I have given up trying to contact them. My energy is better spent focused on others that are more likely to listen. I know, I know…bad attitude, but I know I’m not alone. .
We did WIN this battle…second one in recent days…let’s keep the pressure on, they are loosing steam!!!
Please explain how allowing corporations with lots of money to dominate the democratic process protects your freedom of speech?
The constitution is protected by individual citizens utilizing their free speech rights, not by powerful corporations dominating the conversation through immense resources. That sort of thing will lead us right back to the kind of monarchy that we rejected in 1776.
Don’t trade government dominance for corporate dominance. Pass the DISCLOSE Act.
We the people, by the people is still better than “We the corporations”.

A corporation is merely a group of individual owners (shareholders). By denying corporations the ability to donate freely you are in essence restricting the freedoms of those individuals. If a sole-proprietor wants to donate to a candidate who will pursue policies that would be beneficial to the business, that is fine, but if there are group of people who own the business then they cannot do it?
@ Laurel Lighten: Did you read the July 26th article explaining what is wrong with the DISCLOSE act before you made your post? If not, go read it now. Maybe then you’ll understand, if not, you are hopeless. We need LESS government regulations not more. Since the unions are in bed with Obama I guess it’s expected that they would be exempted. Let’s have UNION and Government dominance over corporate dominance, right? WRONG!!! Obama wants to take away individual rights, even if grouped together, except for the unions, of course. Become informed, it might change your mind.
