…why both so-called parties of fed dot gov don’t want to deal with the illegal immigration issue: illegals are helping keep the Social Security system afloat.
I’ve always known it was about demographics, but a recent WaPo article confirms it: by paying SS taxes but being ineligible to receive benefits, illegal immigrants are making a vital contribution toward postponing the date of insolvency for the Social Security system.
Let’s understand something: the illegals are not doing work that Americans don’t want to do, and they are not doing work that would be left undone otherwise. They are doing work and paying payroll taxes while remaining ineligible to ever receive any SS benefits. They count on one side of the Social Security ledger, the income side, but not on the other side, liabilities. In other words, if Americans were doing these jobs they’d be paying the same payroll taxes but they would also then be placed on the Social Security rolls as eligible to receive benefits in the future when they retire. What this literally means is that the federal government doesn’t want you to have this work because you would then want to retire and receive benefits. Only in Bizarro World does this make sense; they’d rather you stayed unemployed. This means they hope that unemployed people will vote for bigger government, and the government keeps on getting free money from illegals. This is how DC defines “Win-Win.”
- Stephen C. Goss, the chief actuary of the Social Security Administration and someone who enjoys bipartisan support for his straightforwardness, said that by 2007, the Social Security trust fund had received a net benefit of somewhere between $120 billion and $240 billion from unauthorized immigrants.
- That represented an astounding 5.4 percent to 10.7 percent of the trust fund’s total assets of $2.24 trillion that year. The cumulative contribution is surely higher now. Unauthorized immigrants paid a net contribution of $12 billion in 2007 alone, Goss said.
You can’t make this stuff up.
